This is Carl, he lost everything in the Napa fires, yesterday morning he found a lemon on his burnt tree and says “look hon we can have lemon in our drinks tonight!” with a winning attitude his wife said “we got out alive and still have each other, we are blessed”

Insurance company: "We saw the photo of the lemon you posted, and your claim is denied!"

Carl is about to get an insurance check for most of the value of his operation, and will likely be retiring after selling the land and cashing his insurance check. A nice beach condo somewhere that doesn't get hurricanes or wildfires, with an endless stream of lemony beverages.

Those fires are just as if not more tragic as the hurricanes.
12 Oct 2017 22:39 - +7
Cave Johnson did say that he would make combustible lemons to burn peoples houses down.
12 Oct 2017 21:40 - +4

The face of a man with insurance and a healthy retirement account
12 Oct 2017 23:27 - +1
I do feel a little bad for the people losing their land/homes in Napa but at the same time I know that many of them will be totally fine, financially speaking. Either they're already quite wealthy or they have good insurance.
12 Oct 2017 23:14 - +1
"Blessed" to have lost everything... lol
12 Oct 2017 23:43 - +1
Yeah they'll probably be staying at the winter house while the new estate is being built.
12 Oct 2017 23:19 - +1
This is wedtoanidea, he saw a picture in a news article, uploaded it to imgur, wrote a description and posted it to reddit for fake internet points.

At that sort of age you're grateful for what you have.
12 Oct 2017 23:28 - +1
If life gives you lemons, ask life why it burned down your house and home.
12 Oct 2017 23:28 - +1
When life gives you Melons, you are dyslexic.

Life literally gave him lemons
12 Oct 2017 23:05 - +1
When life is sour, make some lemonade.

When life gives you a lemon...
12 Oct 2017 23:15 - +1
And with that, a mighty cheer went up from the heroes of Napa. They had banished the awful lemon tree forever, because it was haunted. Now let's all celebrate with a cool glass of turnip juice.
12 Oct 2017 23:42 - +1
He didn't lose everything - he still has her.
12 Oct 2017 22:50 - +1
[Here]( is a higher quality version of this image (though still not great). Credit to the photographer, Clark Good. [Here]( provides the following information: > OCT 11 2017 >NAPA (KTVU) - KTVU's Frank Somerville posted about a couple on his Facebook page about a couple who lost their home in the wine country fires but is making the best of things: >"The fact that these two people are smiling is amazing to me. >They have such a great attitude given that they just lost their home in Napa. >Clark Good posted about them and the story behind the lemon that they are holding. >Here’s what he wrote: >Meet my new friend Carl. House was totally destroyed by fire. >Walking up his driveway with him this morning he see’s a lemon from off of his tree that was burned to a crisp. >He turns to his wife with a big smile and says: 'Look hon we can have lemon in our drinks tonight!' >Amazing attitudes they had for losing so much. >His wife said: 'We got out alive and still have each other, we are blessed.'

What a self righteous couple. They deserve each other
12 Oct 2017 23:26 - +1
Cave Johnson?
12 Oct 2017 22:46 - +1
It's not always easy to smile after something like this, even if you're expecting an insurance windfall. Excellent job and I further adopt you as grandparents.
12 Oct 2017 23:27 - +1
Just so people know this is just not a Napa fire. The whole towns of Sonoma and Calistoga had mandatory evacuations last yesterday. I'm from Napa and have been told to get ready for evac twice. This is really a North Bay fire. I know Napa gets the pub because of the name, but the news almost can't even due the devastation justice in this case.
12 Oct 2017 22:10 - +1
He has one lemon (and one wife) more than me.
12 Oct 2017 23:29 - +1
Goddam it nappa
12 Oct 2017 23:43 - +1
Hopefully, this is the look of a guy with insurance.
12 Oct 2017 23:31 - +1
All I can think is “They must have really great insurance”
12 Oct 2017 22:43 - +1
When life gives you lemon, make reddit front page.
12 Oct 2017 23:33 - +1
It’s not his winning attitude, I’m sure he has another house somewhere
12 Oct 2017 22:54 - +1
Hmmm, looks like I’ll be starting up a lemon-based building supply company.
12 Oct 2017 23:38 - +1
Sad they lost everything, nice to see them keeping there heads up
12 Oct 2017 22:56 - +1
I seriously thought someone photoshoped an old couple into Fallout4.
12 Oct 2017 23:43 - +1
Nope. Nope. Nope. I'm sorry. But I can't take this this anymore. I am so sick and tired of people who survived through something and then have the balls to say "we are blessed" or "God was with us." To me this is a sick way of thinking. Nonono. First of all, you don't know if there is a God. In fact what we have discovered through science contradicts the bible. Could all be made up and most certainly is made up. Secondly, what the fuck do you think was the reason for the real victims who ACTUALLY DIED in the fires. Huh? Were they not "as blessed" as you were? You don't know how much more religious they were than you. Or do you think that they deserved it? Clearly that might be what you're implying. You were blessed and they weren't? This is what religion does. It poisons the mind into thinking that out of pure coincidence, they think something purposeful and meaningful from some supernatural thing, WHICH O WOW HOW CONVENIENT WE CAN'T PROVE IT'S EXISTENCE YOU NEED FAITH, has happened to them. Fuck religion. And fuck the tax breaks churches get. We are doing this all wrong. How much does NASA get on the tax budget? Huh? What about health care? Religion is the complete opposite of good.
12 Oct 2017 23:02 - +1
That reminds me of the study they did on luck where they essentially found out that you 'make your own luck' based on your outlook. e.g. this couple; they can feel lucky to be alive or they could choose to feel unlucky about what they've lost. They are in the same situation either way, just that one outlook is a lot healthier and more positive.
12 Oct 2017 23:43 - +1
God spared that lemon. It’s a miracle.
12 Oct 2017 23:20 - +1
Guess what wildfire... i got money
12 Oct 2017 22:13 - +1
You know, without context, this is prime /r/hmmm material.
12 Oct 2017 22:58 - +1
When life gives you lemons...fuck the lemons and bail
12 Oct 2017 23:41 - +1
i got a feeling carl is financially well off.
12 Oct 2017 23:16 - +1
And the people who have died? Cursed ?
12 Oct 2017 22:23 - +1
I love their smiles in the face of adversity! Given the scale of those fires and the populated locations that were greatly impacted by them, I'm surprised we are not seeing more posts related to them.
12 Oct 2017 23:42 - +1
Eh Carl already lived in one of the nicest places on earth so it's hard for to have sympathy for him.
12 Oct 2017 23:22 - +1
They are rich and loaded. They don’t care.
12 Oct 2017 23:35 - +1
Great, two rich white people are still happy after their home in a remarkably expensive area of an already expensive state burnt down. Please call your representatives and tell them to help Puerto Rico.
12 Oct 2017 23:27 - +1
She managed to salvage a coffee from the disaster as well
12 Oct 2017 23:18 - +1
Despair isn't when something bad happens - it's when it affects only you.
12 Oct 2017 23:05 - +1
The only three things that are of brightness are their smiles and that lemon.
12 Oct 2017 23:10 - +1
What an inspiring attitude! Go Carl!
12 Oct 2017 23:15 - +1
The human spirit is a beautiful thing
12 Oct 2017 23:18 - +1
Hopefully they save the seeds, and regrow the tree!

Hon, let’s get shitfaced and screw like horny teenagers.
12 Oct 2017 22:30 - +-1
Bless you both!!!!!
12 Oct 2017 22:27 - +-1
Given the circumstances of what just happened, it's great they can find some humor in the moment and enjoy the comfort in having one another.
12 Oct 2017 22:31 - +-2
*assuming they are religious from “blessed” comment. People can hate on religion, but when your joy and purpose is tied up in something that can’t be destroyed, you experience life differently. Good for them!
