Am I the only one that's super fascinated by and kind of jealous of how fast it fell asleep? It seems like it lays its head down, yawns, gives its snuggle buddy one last squeeze and then is immediately drifting off.

I love otters. Interesting otter fact they have a favorite rock they carry with them everywhere and pass it on to future generations.

The fingers concern me. I feel as though they're capable of complex tasks, such as operation of a firearm.

I’ve been on this app as long as I can remember. I’ve been through multiple accounts (this being my 4th) and I have to say, this is by far the cutest thing I’ve ever seen on this site.

I wish I could fall asleep that quickly. I guess I have too many otter things on my mind.

Okay reddit, tell me why we shouldn't own an otter.

You guys, this isn't a sea otter. It's not a notorious rapist, nor does it float around on its back holding hands, or sleep in the water clutching seaweed. These otters are semiaquatic, and they sleep on land or in dens. There's already a lot of misinformation flooding into this thread, which I'm trying to curb here, so please correct me if I'm wrong because I'd hate to be adding to it. This looks like a North American river otter to me, but I'm no expert.

Why is this precious and wild creature caged with a soft toy? This seems cute but is utterly sad.

Dogs and otters are different species, they are not comparable. Having otters as pets creates a market for these animals which has negative consequences for our ecosystem and leads to animal suffering. Please rescue dogs or cats or other domestic pets that have been abandoned instead of doing this. You may still be able to turn this around (eg liase with an animal rescuing agency that could bring this otter back to its natural environment safely) and raise awareness so others don’t do the same!
