I read this as cheeseboard and was so confused as to why it had squares.
15 Nov 2017 01:17 - +501
Dang how many of these does he make in one shift ?
15 Nov 2017 01:59 - +189
Pretty sure this is [mtmwood](https://www.youtube.com/user/mtmwood) from youtube. Russian dude that makes all kinds of end-grain cutting boards, chessboards, etc. Great stuff! Edit - [Source Video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGFeo_v3AQQ)

That is absolutely gorgeous. That's some serious word working porn.
15 Nov 2017 02:38 - +63
I was more interested in how he made those wood pieces to begin with rather than how to put them in a grid, although the whole gif was very satisfying to watch anyway!
15 Nov 2017 01:38 - +48
It took him just as long to make his cheeseboard as it takes the restaurant to bring me mine with sliced cheese on it. Aannnddd it’s a chessboard... Not posting my comment would be cheating.

Cool and everything but how is this educational? r/educationalgifs has really been lacking on the educational. I can't speak for everything but many of the "medical" gifs on here have been really lacking and bordering on pseudoscience and misinformation.
15 Nov 2017 01:34 - +27
Is there a GIF for the pieces?
15 Nov 2017 04:46 - +26
Much easier this way https://i.redd.it/oci4kobk70yz.gif
15 Nov 2017 04:13 - +16
Is it supposed to look like Minecraft sand and dirt?

I wonder how much that costs to buy as well as how much it costs to make.
15 Nov 2017 07:52 - +2
I was watching thinking you were making a cheese board.
15 Nov 2017 03:26 - +2
this is one very classy chessboard
15 Nov 2017 06:34 - +2
Read this as cheeseboard. Was very confused. Really cool process tho
15 Nov 2017 04:25 - +2
I wish was good enough at chess to warrant having this.
15 Nov 2017 01:53 - +2
Beautiful.
15 Nov 2017 05:55 - +2
Wow, those uneven shapes within each square... /r/ATBGE

I made a chessboard in highschool. Lost a quarter of my thumb but hey, got a cool amalgamation of wood.
15 Nov 2017 06:16 - +2
I'd get headache if I would play 10 minutes on that chess board. It's looking nice and all... but there is a reason why chessboards look simple and clean.
15 Nov 2017 03:55 - +2
That is an excellent square.
15 Nov 2017 07:46 - +1
You just need checkered paint actually
15 Nov 2017 06:34 - +1
It's a nice board but it looks like someone saved it as a jpeg with quality set to 1...
15 Nov 2017 05:56 - +1
I always wondered... on a perfect chessboard: which squares meet at the corners? The black, or the white ones?

I'm never really impressed seeing these posts where someone just glues wood together then sands/varnishes it a bit. Is this really the "woodworking" way to make a quality chessboard or is there a higher skill way to do it?
15 Nov 2017 06:40 - +1
Thought it was gonna be a Minecraft board for a good second
15 Nov 2017 07:35 - +1
Any carpenters out there know if this is even possible without glue?
15 Nov 2017 06:52 - +1
The pattern of the squares makes me uncomfortable.

15 Nov 2017 06:59 - +1
I read the title as making a cheeseboard and was really confused at the effort until the end there.
15 Nov 2017 05:51 - +1
I've never seen someone work so fast!! And they say there isn't any action in chess.
15 Nov 2017 07:15 - +1
For a very brief moment I was thinking “why is he putting mayonnaise on his chessboard.” And then I quickly became ashamed of myself.
15 Nov 2017 06:32 - +1
This looks so complicated
15 Nov 2017 07:18 - +1
That is one really awesome looking chessboard
15 Nov 2017 07:42 - +1
Damn, I thought they were nade like [this.](https://i.redd.it/5q5j27ar80yz.gif)
15 Nov 2017 07:21 - +1
I once helped made a desk that had a chess board top, I wasn't the main person working on it, I was helping my friend with it. It turned out looking great, it was for a woodshop class in 9th grade (high School freshmen year), wish I had a picture
15 Nov 2017 07:48 - +1
I would play chess on that board
15 Nov 2017 07:22 - +1
Man I wanna do wood working so bad, but I’m afraid of cutting something off.
15 Nov 2017 07:53 - +1
Sauce?
15 Nov 2017 07:23 - +1
It's just the same end grain cutting board technique everyone uses and over charges for. It looks great but it's super easy. I find it somewhat disappointing that no one ever attempts to make matching chess pieces.
15 Nov 2017 05:46 - +1
With all that quality I want to see one churned out from China in 10 seconds.
15 Nov 2017 07:26 - +1
Dude I was waiting this whole video for them to put cheese on that board already...
15 Nov 2017 05:56 - +1
It's things like this that make me realize how strange of a species we are. Our minds crave right angles and smooth, flat glossy surfaces. No other animals on Earth care about these things.
15 Nov 2017 07:26 - +1
Did this in woods class and some asshole broke my board into pieces while the glue was drying so I had to redo it
15 Nov 2017 06:12 - +1
The gif missed the real misery: how the hell did they get all those different wood pieces to fit together??
15 Nov 2017 03:30 - +1
For anyone who wants to see more from this guy, he’s on YouTube. “Mtm wood”
15 Nov 2017 06:30 - +1
That’s some fine Millwork right there
15 Nov 2017 03:31 - +1
This makes me wonder if there is an Ultimate "Chess" game like there is [Ultimate Tic Tac Toe](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimate_tic-tac-toe) That would be an extremely long game!
15 Nov 2017 06:34 - +1
For anybody who’s done IB, my personal project is making a chess set, so this is actually useful to me.
15 Nov 2017 03:58 - +1
I can't seem to see what he is working on[.](https://s3.envato.com/files/65812752/wood-camoprew.jpg)
15 Nov 2017 06:38 - +1
Damn. I thought it said cheese board. Was very disappointed.
15 Nov 2017 04:00 - +1
I would mess this up many times. Many
15 Nov 2017 06:39 - +1
Nice cheese board
15 Nov 2017 04:13 - +1
That board is so beautiful it makes me want to start playing chess.
15 Nov 2017 06:42 - +1
this is funny, i enjoy this
15 Nov 2017 04:17 - +1
Is this from "I like to Make Stuff" YouTube Channel? I love that channel.
15 Nov 2017 06:56 - +1
It has ceased to be a game, and become . . . an *objet d'art*.
15 Nov 2017 04:20 - +1
mtmwood! one of my favorites to watch!
15 Nov 2017 07:03 - +1
This is actually how i made my chess board but his looks way better considering it was my first time lol

Took me half of this gif to realize it says “chessboard” not “cheeseboard”.
15 Nov 2017 04:55 - +1
Need...more...tools.
15 Nov 2017 07:22 - +1
Classy piece to have around the house. For chess though, it seems like it would be really distracting having all those "sub-squares".

Oh my god. I thought it said cheeseboard, I was impressed nonetheless
15 Nov 2017 05:02 - +1
Appears you got purple heart wood in there. Love it!
15 Nov 2017 07:24 - +1
This isn't really educational. It's way overly complicated. It's not instructing someone how they can do it.
15 Nov 2017 05:15 - +1
This turned out way better than the chess board I made in high school woodshop.
15 Nov 2017 07:26 - +1
Fancy..I've only played chess on folding cardboard boards.
15 Nov 2017 05:17 - +1
as I'm looking at my unfinished shaker bench from a woodshop class 3 years ago
15 Nov 2017 07:31 - +1
Yeah that's nice but I want a cheese board
15 Nov 2017 05:22 - +1
Damn this is so simple, maybe I should go into the chessboard making industry haha
15 Nov 2017 07:40 - +1
Did anybody else read this as cheeseboard?
15 Nov 2017 05:27 - +1
Doesn't even have the pieces on the board for the money shot though
15 Nov 2017 07:42 - +1
I read this as cheese board
15 Nov 2017 05:32 - +1
You can also make one by laser engraving a single piece of wood. It wouldn't look anywhere as nice though.
15 Nov 2017 07:47 - +1
Is this how it's made?
15 Nov 2017 05:35 - +1
that was intensely more difficult than I always assumed it was to make one of those boards. No wonder they're so expensive..
15 Nov 2017 07:49 - +1
this GIF got 4k karma while it still trying to load lol. damn slow internet
15 Nov 2017 05:36 - +1
