I can't see a hydrofoil without thinking of the boat from Jonny Quest. edit: In case anyone is curious. https://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/jonnyquest/images/f/f3/Hydrofoil.png/revision/latest?cb=20131018003133

I'm 250lbs, would this still work?

Wow. I thought it was 2 separate boats - a yellow one and a white one - until it turned towards the camera. My mind momentarily melted.

it's a pedal boat not a Paddleboat

I want someone to make a green scaly hand to go around the "stalk" part so it's like a sea monster is carrying them around

Okay Engineers, I have good news and bad news. The good news is you will receive A's on this project. The bad news is this will not help you get laid.

But why?

For some reason I read paddleboat hydroplane and I just picture a guy with gigantic legs peddling so fast the boat is skidding on top of the water.

Source Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvlS-4t54cc The video owner commented, "You can't buy one because it's a prototype ! but evolution are in development !" This is an awesome example of a hydrofoil. Under the water effectively is a wing, it behaves in the same way as a plane wing. Often these can have their angle of attack adjusted too but it's unclear if the boat in the video can do that. There's a sweet spot where the extra energy being spent creating lift with this wing is less than the energy saved by having less drag (once the boat is out of the water there's only a very small part of the boat submerged creating drag, which makes hydroplanes not only awesome to watch but quite efficient. That’s the fastest paddle boat of all time
8 Dec 2017 10:14 - +1
Reminds me of Spongebobs unicycle.
8 Dec 2017 11:36 - +1
Is it really a paddle boat, or a pedal boat?
8 Dec 2017 10:36 - +1
That... doesn't look like it should be happening.
8 Dec 2017 11:43 - +1
Holy shit, I just realized that airplane wings use airfoils (2D cross-section), and this thing uses a hydrofoil because it creates lift using water.

think about how much trippier it would be if the bars running down to the part in the water was clear/plexiglass
8 Dec 2017 11:48 - +1
Here's our pedalboat prototype. Let's weave between other peoples' boats that could shift suddenly with the wind and trust we can control it.
8 Dec 2017 11:38 - +1
Definitely not harder than it looks
8 Dec 2017 09:03 - +0
Wut.
