These trumpeters coming in have high requirements from immigrants but suggest for a second that “real” Americans find some other job as coal dies and suddenly that’s too much.

This quote is from a letter to Francis Adrian Van der Kemp, the full text of which I have included below. >Sir, >The letter which you did me the favor to address to me on the 15th of this instt from New York has been duly received, and I take the speediest occasion to well-come your arrival on the American shore. >**I had always hoped that this land might become a safe & agreeable Asylum to the virtuous & persecuted part of mankind, to whatever nation they might belong;** but I shall be the more particularly happy, if this Country can be, by any means, useful to the Patriots of Holland, with whose situation I am peculiarly touched, and of whose public virtue I entertain a great opinion. > You may rest assured, Sir, of my best & most friendly sentiments of your suffering compatriots, and that, while I deplore the calamities to which many of the most worthy members of your Community have been reduced by the late foreign interposition in the interior affairs of the United Netherlands; I shall flatter myself that many of them will be able with the wrecks of their fortunes which may have escaped the extensive devastation, to settle themselves in comfort, freedom and ease in some corner of the vast regions of America. The spirit of the Religions and the genius of the political Institutions of this Country must be an inducement. Under a good government (which I have no doubt we shall establish) this Country certainly promises greater advantages, than almost any other, to persons of moderate property, who are determined to be sober, industrious & virtuous members of Society. And it must not be concealed, that a knowledge that these are the general characteristics of your compatriots would be a principal reason to consider their advent as a valuable acquisition to our infant settlements. If you should meet with as favorable circumstances, as I hope will attend your first operations; I think it probable that your coming will be the harbinger for many more to adventure across the Atlantic. In the meantime give me leave to request that I may have the pleasure to see you at my house whensoever it can be convenient to you, and to offer whatsoever services it may ever be in my power to afford yourself, as well as to the other Patriots & friends to the rights of Mankind of the Dutch Nation.2 I am—With sentiments of great esteem & respect—Sir Your Most Obedt & Very Hble Servant

I find these quotes so inspirational especially in light of your current shitty president. Who is nothing more, at all, than a b-rate celebrity and greedy businessman.

Wouldn't aiming to incorporate people with higher technical skills be more financially viable to an evolving country that outsources their labor to auxiliary countries? Shithole countries was a stupid, bigoted, and elitist way to say it, but it's not like most of Europe doesn't do the same thing.

How to tell if a country is a shithole, do you see yourself saying "Yeah I'd move there." Cause there are a large number of countries that most people wouldn't want to live in.

Interpretation sure is a bitch. So how come some of your countries constitutional rights are argued as being "oh those for only during revolutionary times under threat of the British Empire"? What's with the selective interpretation?

mission accomplished GW - 1 million documented + 100,000s undocumented and growing.
13 Jan 2018 08:39 - +0
Lol you really think George Washington would’ve liked this sub?
13 Jan 2018 08:59 - +0
This is the same president who owned slaves, right?
13 Jan 2018 08:48 - +0
He meant if you weren’t black that is.

Im surprised to see George Washingon embraced by this sub.

I've been deployed to some shithole countries. Don't know how anyone could live there. Violence, sickness, poverty, and death.

Asylum ==/== mass immigration from countries with culture hostile to American values. GW wouldn't have wanted streams of un-educated, unskilled laborers coming in and voting in socialist benefits for themselves. GW lived when to vote you had to be a land owner.

I don't mind immigration, as a conservative I actually encourage it, this country deserves to have those who want to be here just as much as the people who want to be here deserve to be here, BUT as a nation we need to think of our own safety, there are people who hate our virtues and principles, and work to overthrow them, it's why I support immigration reform, stricter borders, shorter nationalization periods

Virtuous and persecuted doesn’t mean poor, unskilled, and uneducated.

We must always keep in mind the matters of the present when considering the words of the past. Immigration's time has passed. In less than twenty years, all the jobs that first-generation immigrants currently do will be replaced by automation. Taxis? Gone. Fast Food Jobs? Gone. Truck Drivers? Gone. If we stopped all low-economic immigration right now, we'll be ahead of the rest of the world in twenty years, when the economic rioting begins. Not only that, but it will create greater economic incentive for these technologies, accelerating scientific development in the united states and improving the economy, as scientific development always does.

There were no African nations at the time and the ones who did exist had no means of emigrating to the United States. They were being administered by Europe. Map from 1808, hard to find ones exactly from when George was alive. it literally says Negroland, Hottentots and other tribe names and land areas called black lands.

George said that back when there was so much undeveloped land in an agrarian culture, they gave you acreage to work just for showing up. That isn't the case anymore.

Yes it's a good quote, but you all need to remember that he was a slave owner who cared little for people of color.

What George Washington didn’t say “and this should continue on forever regardless of how many people we have in our country we should just let in whoever wants to come in until there’s standing room only in the country like a Justin Bieber concert”
