Herbie Hancock needs hearing aids, its a sad thing for a musician

Very sad. Hope he keeps playing for many years. One of the best guitarist and songwriters ever.

Thats horrible. My heart goes out to him and to Phil Collins who had to stop making music for health issues and MASSIVE hearing loss as well.. as a musician, i'd rather have lost my legs.....

That's depressing. That's horrible irony I feel terrible. Robot devil kind of shit

Reading the headline I instinctively reached to turn the volume down to what I was listening to. Protect your ears as much as you can!

Cranked JTM100s will do that...

Pete Townshend has lost most of his hearing, still getting it done.

That is probably the most tragic fate for a musician that I can think of. Musicians just don't play music, they love music too. To have a passion ripped from you is to have a part of your soul destroyed.

So wear ear plugs during concerts everybody. Don't loose your hearing because you want to party. Edit: leaving it.

Hearing loss/damage is why daft punk no longer tours.

God damnit I came here to be sad about Eric and all i got was Chuck Berry farting in hookers mouths. Another Friday on Reddit I guess.

I remember him already mentioning that nearly a decade ago. He might be starting to forget things too

Apparently Cream was so loud that Clapton and Ginger Baker once stopped playing mid song and Jack Bruce didn't even notice. Clapton has talked about his noise induced hearing loss for years. At 70 years old I'm guessing age related hearing loss is just compounding the problem.

He said this much in his autobiography that was released 10 years ago. I don't understand why this is a revelation. He never liked IEMs because they weren't "natural". I think this is more his humility in coping with the effects of age on his playing abilities.

Earplugs. Earplugs. Earplugs. They are so important for musicians/producers.. carry a pair with you wherever you go, you never know when you'll need them.

As fucking shitty as it is, I can imagine why. It's absolutely insane how much volume oldschool rockstars like to pump out while they're performing so I guess a lifetime of being in that environment is eventually going to take its toll. Hopefully it's not too late for him and he's able to take steps to preserve the hearing that he still has left.
