Loft conversion home cinema with luxury seating, acoustic panelling and drop down screen 😍

This looks great, however it has some practicality problems. First, there is no seating in the optical or acoustic center of the room. The viewer will be looking at the screen from an angle and will be much closer to one speaker than the other. When there is a second viewer, that person will be even further off center or on the other side of the room. I’d rather have one couch in the center than two off-center couches. Second, the drop-down screen isn’t really necessary. Are people going to sit on those couches and stare at a blank wall instead? I’d rather have a cheaper, high quality fixed screen instead. Overall very well executed but just not as practical as it could be. EDIT: Yes having the gap between the couches makes it easier to walk without stooping over. Personally, I'd rather stoop for a second and enjoy my 2 hour movie from the proper perspective. EDIT 2: Wow, so many people saying this is an example of how this sub is overly critical. I said at the beginning and the end that this was well-executed. I simply said I prefer to sit in front of my TV rather than an angle. I think that is a reasonable criticism for a function-specific room like this.

Is it just me or do home theater posts always bring out the most criticism in this sub?
14 Jan 2018 00:12 - +560
And a skylight to get the authentic home theater screen glare XD
13 Jan 2018 23:07 - +238
Why are the seats off center?
14 Jan 2018 01:14 - +160
ITT: Reddit vs OP’s emojis, home theater edition
14 Jan 2018 00:00 - +55
Do you have any info on those love seats? Thanks

I feel some people here are way too picky about speaker placement compared to the general population and this is coming from an audiophile. The vast majority of the population doesn't care and doesn't notice improperly placed speakers. Hardly do I ever see properly placed speakers in other peoples homes. Secondly, it's practically laughable to expect the homeowners to have removed that window on what was obviously a lower budgeted renovation. They just wanted a dedicated movie space, not some master theater build. Finally, I understand why they didn't center the seating due to those whacky loft beams. It would've been hit your head central for tall people if they had to walk along the sides of the room. Off-centered viewing isn't optimal but it isn't really a big deal. If you show up to a theater slightly late you likely would be getting non-centered seating there too. Most regular living rooms already have secondary seating perpendicular to the screen and this isn't any worse than that. At the end of the day, the room isn't optimal but it is still probably better than their regular living room setup. I wouldn't really say this is /r/roomporn material due to the issues but it's still a neat room.

I love it! it's,like, "Star Trek: The Next Generation" chic
14 Jan 2018 02:03 - +28

14 Jan 2018 00:57 - +25
For what it’s worth, I love it! Whose ever home it is, is very lucky!
14 Jan 2018 00:05 - +20
Wow, nice job. Don't worry about them haters.
14 Jan 2018 01:26 - +19
Really lacking function, but looks good, but REALLY lacks function. Don't really like this, seems more like about impressing guest than actually enjoying a good film with a quality set up.
14 Jan 2018 00:41 - +19
Argh, a white ceiling, why? Speaking from experience, even if you have no light sources other than the screen, just having a white ceiling is enough to bounce enough of that back and ruin your black levels.
14 Jan 2018 00:57 - +15
Nice setup! Having had a few lofts that went unused save for storage after the novelty wore off, let me add to the list: β€œall the summertime heat you can loathe”.
14 Jan 2018 01:17 - +11
For some reason it makes me think of the apartments in Coruscant.
14 Jan 2018 01:50 - +10
ITT: A bunch of jealous people.
14 Jan 2018 01:23 - +8
dibs sitting in the middle on a chair
14 Jan 2018 00:38 - +8
I want to come and chill here!
14 Jan 2018 01:05 - +8
This would make a great living room, but a pretty shit theater
14 Jan 2018 01:12 - +8
I'd love to see how this looks at night!
14 Jan 2018 02:23 - +7
People sitting and complaining about the screen position and ill I'm doing is dreaming of one day being able to afford a loft like that.
14 Jan 2018 01:45 - +7
I really hope you keep sharing your work because this is great even if it's not exactly optimal or how some others would have done it. It's a cool looking space regardless.
14 Jan 2018 01:40 - +7
Dear God, this thread is filled with painfully obnoxious assholes. You did good, OP, given your requirements.
14 Jan 2018 03:35 - +6
Hey /u/kierdavis, I appreciate your posting this onto reddit for us to see. I hope the other commenters haven't turned you off from sharing future work. I get how client work can be frustrating sometimes, and it's baffling how some commenters think you can strongarm a client into doing something logical. There are simply some cases where you do what you must to get paid and have a positive experience with a client. Keep it up, and ignore the haters.
14 Jan 2018 02:40 - +6
Itt: redditors tearing op a new one for doing what the contract asked for. Smdh i don’t understand you people sometimes. If someone orders a pizza with anchovies and apple slices and will pay you well to do it, why hem and haw that a pizza shouldn’t be like that?
14 Jan 2018 04:03 - +3
Jesus all the sudden everyone is an expert. I think it's great and I love it having blackout blinds bc you could also use the room for things like reading.
14 Jan 2018 01:52 - +3
What is the height at the centre of the room, I have been thinking of utilising my loft space for something similar. What is the width? I like what you have done with the space here.
14 Jan 2018 01:05 - +3
Reminds me of the buried shopping container room from r/DIY that turned into a shitstorm of criticism for fire safety amongst other things. It’s worth looking up for a laugh.
14 Jan 2018 03:32 - +3
Lol how are people criticising this room so much. It's amazing. If I had this I couldn't complain about anything.
14 Jan 2018 01:24 - +3
as soon as iv'e finished my carpentry course i know what im building

How much did it cost? (Sorry is this has been answered, didn’t see it if so!)
14 Jan 2018 02:58 - +3
My Uncle makes a living and works for one of the biggest interior design and construction companies in DC/Baltimore and I'm 100% certain that people on this sub would rip into any of his designs and call out countless flaws.....
14 Jan 2018 02:02 - +2
Is that the Shake & Vac advert?
14 Jan 2018 01:59 - +2
Love it cool 😍😘
14 Jan 2018 03:08 - +2
it's beautiful, but would drive me nuts not being situated directly in front of the screen.
14 Jan 2018 03:34 - +2
Not sure why everyone else has a stick up their ass, I love this. I could totally see myself lounging on one of the couches with my wife, while we have friends over for movie night. Looks cozy indeed.
14 Jan 2018 02:52 - +2
That glare tho. Does it have blackout shades?
14 Jan 2018 01:56 - +2
All day!!
14 Jan 2018 02:20 - +2
The title of this sub is the wrong way round, this is clearly a porn room
14 Jan 2018 01:59 - +2
why did i think that was c3po gazing out of a window
14 Jan 2018 02:49 - +2
There’s SO many acoustic panels in there... seems like it would sound dead in that room.
14 Jan 2018 02:05 - +2
Seing as everyone keeps saying it's shit because you arn't in the center but they aren't actually giving a solution i will. Swap the 2 sofas around so the side with the arm rest is towards the wall then mount the 2 sofas on rails fixed to the floor. That way you can slide the 2 sofas towards the walls to make a passage to pass through then once everyone is on the other side of the sofas you can slide them both together and have 1 big sofa in the middle.
14 Jan 2018 01:09 - +2
I quite like this. The only thing I'd change is the angle of the seats placing the backs into the corner floor behind them but that's just me, and of course, blinds or something to see the screen better. Lovely.
14 Jan 2018 02:21 - +2
Fucking nice
14 Jan 2018 03:31 - +2
Luxury seating means sofa?
14 Jan 2018 02:52 - +2
OP, this is awesome. Well done my friend. By the way, I see you put an extra couch for a friend. Please invite me for a movie. I’ll bring chips and dip.
14 Jan 2018 03:21 - +2
The comments in this post are so Reddit. OP posts this awesome looking set up and everyone has to just immediately shit on it and point out every little detail about why it isn't optimal.
14 Jan 2018 03:07 - +2
After reading these comments I will be sure to never upload anything in hopes of a positive response. I love how everyones a critic...must be nice to somehow be that happy with your life while so cynical of others... With that said, quite impressive. :D Looks comfy.
14 Jan 2018 03:27 - +2
Yeah, I'd watch porn on that.
14 Jan 2018 03:18 - +2
The seating is stupid. β€œHey let’s make this sweet home theater room and put all the seating off to the side!”
14 Jan 2018 01:49 - +2
I want this β™₯️
14 Jan 2018 03:26 - +2
Damn reading through all these comments is weird. Would love to have room like this but if i had it i would probably spend way too much time watching movies in it!
14 Jan 2018 01:52 - +2
Looks wonderful
14 Jan 2018 03:27 - +2
Needs Hugh Heffner in a smoking jacket.
14 Jan 2018 01:47 - +2
I like it! Very cozy and inviting.
14 Jan 2018 03:32 - +2
Looks quite Next Generation bridge.
14 Jan 2018 01:18 - +2
Where is the projector, what kind, and how far away from the screen is it?
14 Jan 2018 03:51 - +2
14 Jan 2018 03:51 - +2
I’ll be doing this in about three years... can’t wait!
14 Jan 2018 04:09 - +2
MRW my kids tell me they don't like the new loft conversion home cinema with luxury seating, acoustic paneling, and drop down screen
14 Jan 2018 03:51 - +2
What type of carpet is this?
14 Jan 2018 03:59 - +2
The kids must’ve moved out lol
14 Jan 2018 04:14 - +2
I like this because it looks like I'm about to be dubbed a jedi knight up in there.
14 Jan 2018 04:23 - +2
I need that
14 Jan 2018 04:16 - +2
wow this thread is terrible.
14 Jan 2018 05:11 - +2
This is awesome
14 Jan 2018 05:15 - +2
14 Jan 2018 05:21 - +2
I hope one of those end boxes next to the screen is full of booze, and the other full of beer.
14 Jan 2018 03:47 - +1
Ugh carpeting
14 Jan 2018 00:58 - +1
Is the paneling just to keep down vibrations? Could similar paneling be used in a ceiling to cut down on noise from upstairs neighbors?
