Not when there’s 5 pixels of green left in the top left corner... *shudder*

XP?? That goes back to Windows 95 at least!
14 Jan 2018 00:39 - +190
I thought I'd never see this again.
14 Jan 2018 01:05 - +142
In Windows 10, it's the same, except ads and prompts for microtransactions bounce across the screen.

This goes back waaaaaaaay further than XP. Windows 95 at least, and probably 3.1. I was in a computer lab in college in the 90s, after class hours. Some dude was up in front at the "instructor" station and apparently didn't know that his solitaire game was being displayed on the screen to 50 other people. He didn't notice the small round of applause when he won the game, but then one of the cards took a nearly vertical path and took about a minute to clear the screen. The tension built up in the room until it finally bounced all the way off and then everyone went nuts, clapping and cheering, which is when he finally figured it out. He laughed it off, but I know what he was thinking: *Oh my God, five more minutes of solitaire and I'd have switched over to porn.*

More rewarding than a lot of modern games

The top left corner...
14 Jan 2018 02:51 - +47
When I used to play this as a kid, I’d hate the ones with the black edges on. couldn’t stop watching until they’d been covered up!
14 Jan 2018 00:31 - +30
I always loved that part... watched it to the very end every time I won. Very satisfying.
14 Jan 2018 01:09 - +18
r/gifsthatendtoosoon that corner............
14 Jan 2018 02:23 - +15
Fun fact: this effect was a bug that everyone thought looked great and so they just kept it in.
14 Jan 2018 01:45 - +12
We had that same effect on our Windows 3.11 machine.
14 Jan 2018 01:44 - +11
Take note EA. This is a real sense of pride and accomplishment.

If you never used Salvia before this is the example I always use to explain it

I'll just leave this here https://www.winningsolitaire.com

This is like in the old paint tool, you could just like take a snip of color and hold shift and drag it around.
14 Jan 2018 00:39 - +6
Want to hear something less satisfying? My parents computer up until I replaced it less than a year ago still ran windows xp. Not because a newer computer had windows xp installed, but because the computer was from the early 2000's. Some highlights include 512mb of ram Edit: the point isn't xp, the point is the computer didn't work. Want to browse a website, it's gonna take 5 minutes from start up to get their. Solitaire didn't work anymore, nothing on the damn thing worked anymore
14 Jan 2018 01:48 - +5
That top left corner makes me want to shove this post into r/mildlyinfuriating
14 Jan 2018 04:22 - +5
Seeing this without having achieved a winning game makes me feel impure
14 Jan 2018 02:25 - +5
I love it when the cards go tcktcktck
14 Jan 2018 01:27 - +5
I disliked that for some reason and would immediately click Deal again.
14 Jan 2018 03:01 - +4
windows XP rewarded people with this effect once in a while, even when they weren't playing solitaire
14 Jan 2018 02:44 - +4
Anyone remember the old pinball game too?
14 Jan 2018 02:59 - +3
I feel like its cheating watching this in a gif. I mean, we didn't earn this.
14 Jan 2018 05:34 - +3
Nostalgia rush, my mom would always call me into the computer room when I was really young when she was about to win so I could watch this, one of my favorite things in the world
14 Jan 2018 03:02 - +3
The realisation that this is something new for a lot of people makes me feel old.
14 Jan 2018 05:26 - +3
As someone who has tried but never succeeded at winning solitaire, is it really just up to chance, or is there some master strategy?
14 Jan 2018 03:07 - +3
Better reward system than any other modern game
14 Jan 2018 05:37 - +3
Reminds me of windows 2000, when I was browsing questionable websites. Played with the frozen windows all the time!
14 Jan 2018 05:22 - +3
The fact that it doesn't cover up that last green piece in the upper left hand corner is extremely upsetting to me
14 Jan 2018 02:32 - +3

14 Jan 2018 05:07 - +2
tfw top left corner is still green.
14 Jan 2018 02:43 - +2
Windows 3.1
14 Jan 2018 04:17 - +2
Were you born yesterday?
14 Jan 2018 02:54 - +2
Oh yea that’s the stuff!
14 Jan 2018 03:42 - +2
Watching this while listening to Around The World by Daft Punk? hngggggg
14 Jan 2018 03:25 - +2
This is one of the most satisfyingly unsatisfying things I've ever seen. It is great fun to watch the cards bounce like they do, but I always wanted to be able to see them bounce long enough and slide out flat like a rubber ball would. Don't even get me started on the tiny little space of green it always leaves in the corner...
14 Jan 2018 04:22 - +2
I guess there are young people who aren't familiar with this? I had it in mind everyone has played this game and won at some point.
14 Jan 2018 03:26 - +2
Here's a scary thought: there are people on reddit right now who aren't old enough to remember this
14 Jan 2018 02:33 - +2
Now if only Mac Chess would make an effort like this to reward me for beating it on the second easiest setting.
14 Jan 2018 03:31 - +2
Once all that tiny black triangle disappeared in the bottom left. 😌😌
14 Jan 2018 04:17 - +2
I feel weird watching this when I’ve done nothing to deserve it.
14 Jan 2018 03:31 - +2
Whenever my dad played this when my brother and I were young, we would all place bets on how many black streaks would happen. Great memories.
14 Jan 2018 04:19 - +2
Does it bother anyone else that there's just a small amount of green still in the top left corner?
14 Jan 2018 03:34 - +2
No! I needed the entire screen white, no black gaps!
14 Jan 2018 04:27 - +2
/r/FuckImOld Damnit, there are *adults* who don't know this. (/) (°,,°) (/)
14 Jan 2018 03:37 - +2
Top left corner pissed me off
