Shocker, I know. But this is from Alabama. We have a small town here that, instead of a groundhog, we use a possum to tell if there’s going to be a longer winter or not. He’s a pretty cool dude. [His name is Sand Mountain Sam](http://www.al.com/news/huntsville/index.ssf/2015/02/sand_mountain_sam_alabamas_wea.html)

Ann Coulter, is that you?
13 Feb 2018 22:27 - +12
News flash. Recycling a handful of tin cans a week is a feel good measure intended to get you to feel like you’re addressing the problem so that you don’t dig deeper and realize we need to make industry make a structural change in the way they function. There’s no amount of recycling you can do as an individual that will have any impact on the world stage.
13 Feb 2018 20:17 - +6
I trust him.

Suddenly, recycling has become MUCH more expensive, to the point that much of what we try to recycle here in the US, will probably just end up in landfill for the foreseeable future: https://www.turnto23.com/news/local-news/recycling-plants-filling-up-fast-after-china-regulations-go-into-effect

I'll be damned, OP. I showed this to my 65-year-old mother who has been brainwashed by Fox News for the last 15 years. Kind of helped her see the light on Trump for the first time.

Media because of anonymity and the fact that there's so many people can be against cigarettes and weed when it's clear, at least to me, that alcohol does the most damage of any legalized substance.
13 Feb 2018 22:39 - +1
but.. animals wouldn’t want to eat what we recycle
13 Feb 2018 23:22 - +1
Why would a possom want to get rid of recycling? If recyclable materials were taken out of the trash it would be easier to get to the food.
13 Feb 2018 22:43 - +1
A that a shrimp on her forehead?
13 Feb 2018 23:20 - +1

Recycling was a compromise offered by corporations to the government in response to plans to make it illegal to sell things like soft drinks in disposable containers as opposed to re-fillable glass ones. The world would be better off, for ~~most~~ some intents and purposes, if we did make the production of ~~most~~ some recyclable goods illegal. edit: I feel like that guy from Interstellar being accused of being a conspiracy nut for believing people actually went to the moon. Did you guys not learn the same history as me in highschool? If I'm so stupid, somebody please tell me then, how did modern recycling of cans and bottles begin? edit: The downvotes continue, but all I can say is that I stated a view of what happened that I believe to be true, and which is recorded in history books, and for which there are records and ample evidence online. Here's a description of the campaign from sourcewatch: >Keep America Beautiful was founded in 1953 by group of businessmen from the beverage and packaging industries who were concerned that government would make them responsible for solving the litter problem by regulating their industries It doesn't invalidate the benefit of recycling conditional on the production of tons of waste products, but if we had less waste products to begin with that'd still be ideal for the environment. Energy it takes to recycle is not environmentally friendly per se
