But it's cold outside!

Jeff gets those true, hard facts from Info-wars and Trump tweets, not like all us plebs who are brainwashed by the reptilian alien overlord fake news media

This post bothers me really because most flyfishermen I know are very in tune with environmental issues, pollution, practice catch and release, etc. I would not stereotype them with climate change deniers.

But those 97% are working for the deep state and Obama and Hillary. /s

If only the public school system would stop failing Jeff here and the red hats alike. Edit: Remember folks, it's just a meme. Memes are not important at all. It's an older meme as well. The red hats in my inbox are angry.

We jest, but a large chunk of folks in the USA treat science with suspicion and "common sense" anecdotes are regarded as equal or better in terms of merit. It's part of the anti-intellectual culture where old wive's tales and psuedo-science reign supreme, where a 7-year old has single-handedly invented the cure for cancer, and political polls are fake news because they predicted Hillary Clinton would win.

I’m a life-long liberal democrat. I believe in climate change. And this repeated 97% number is made-up hyperbolic fake news. If you’re going to claim to be a critical thinker and call out fake news, you’d damn well better be willing to call it out when it’s on “your side” as well. Things like this actually HURT the cause.
13 Feb 2018 22:03 - +90
Well, there's all that evidence on one side. But nah, I think that Jeff guy is on to something.
13 Feb 2018 23:34 - +67
Sorry y'all

Jeff is out here unleashing those red pill truth nukes upon us mortals. we are not worthy of such a smart man

Its PAINFUL when you point someone to piles of studies and evidence and they insist that one "alternative doctor" has found the real truth. And then they smugly show you a YouTube robovoice video that sounds like a schizophrenic rant as further evidence. There's no end to this. I need a stress ball, bp medicine and some A grade videos of cats jumping into small boxes 😣

I mean look at that fish
13 Feb 2018 23:53 - +37
The fact that this is even political is a fucking disgrace. Individualism has made the US a massive innovator, but it has also led to the rise of "my opinion is as valid as an expert's knowledge." Absolutely insane
13 Feb 2018 22:24 - +26
97% seems low. What do the other 3% believe?
13 Feb 2018 23:50 - +26
Two things I like about this : 1. They no longer call it 'global warming', because there are places that are colder than before. 2. Instead of saying 'all scientists agree' they now say '97%' of scientists agree. I don't know when this changed, but both of these changes are very good because it prevents arguments like "it's cold outside" and "there is no way that all scientists everywhere agree, that's impossible".
14 Feb 2018 00:28 - +19
I'm largely conservative. I.e pro gun rights, anti abortion. (Hopefully those two sentences don't yield too many downvotes. However, things like climate change, benefits of clean energy, net neutrality, how can one honestly argue against those things? We have this nasty habit in society of picking a political party and believing whatever that party says, regardless of how dumb it is. It happens on both sides, and it needs to stop if we want to progress as a people.
13 Feb 2018 23:44 - +15
Who would win, millions of scientists and a thousand years of scientific theory or one little rednecky boi
13 Feb 2018 22:38 - +12
But Jeff has a truck and catches fish with his bear hands
13 Feb 2018 23:11 - +11
Ya but I bet that truck is fucking sweet..
13 Feb 2018 22:40 - +10
I keep hearing this “97%” statistic. Can someone tell me where it comes from? I’d really like to know. Thanks!
13 Feb 2018 23:07 - +9
Jeff did his own YouTube research so it's a really close race here
14 Feb 2018 01:17 - +7
Maybe these 97% of scientists should be working on finding ways to produce clean energy at a rate cheaper than fossil fuels instead of constantly spending money trying to "prove" man is responsible for the climate changing.
14 Feb 2018 01:08 - +6
Also, it's worth pointing out that among the 3% who don't agree with the consensus, they think it's actually *worse* and the issues is irreversible and we all gonna die.
14 Feb 2018 00:36 - +4
The problem is the media has an obsession with “appearing impartial” so on air they have a scientist and a ~~skeptic~~ denier debate, the public sees a 50/50 argument, and it’s an argument usually between people that aren’t climate scientists (think Bill Nye vs. Heritage Foundation guy). Actually existing reality, rather than that which is perceived, is much different... the public should see 97 scientists that have devoted their lives to studying the climate present their case, and 3 who have done the same present their objections. Alas, the public’s attention span is too short, and this scenario doesn’t produce great sound bites or TV shows. So the public remains ignorant, and continues to vote ignorantly.
14 Feb 2018 01:17 - +3
I kind of want to hear some scientific evidence from the 3%. My guess is, they just have a political opinion, and haven't bothered to research anything. They just have that magical title of PHD. So while they're stacking boxes in a warehouse because their degree isn't being put to use, or even studying the chemical composition of rocks, they have done no research on climate change.
