That last run was insane, you could tell how bad he wanted it

Watching on NBC, hats off to the commentators for letting moments be moments. That was intense and great to watch. Edit: I was specifically talking about Shaun White’s final run. They were both in love with him, which is half annoying/half appropriate. But I enjoyed the silence before his run, and the silence after he received his score. We all knew what he had to do, and that one mistake would cost him gold. We all watched and didn’t need a play by play replay. We were glued from the start. It was a magical moment. I’m used to Joe Buck talking about perfect games in the top of the 6th lol so I felt surprised and needed to give credit where credit was due. For those who don’t agree with how the NBC broadcast went, keep in mind that they were dealing with the women’s skiing delay, which might of been the cause for the weird cuts, like to skating after Shaun’s score was announced. Btw, I was watching Olympics in Primetime on NBC cable, but it seems to be the same feed as the NBCSN live feed.

Snowboarders yelling "FUCK" on camera after they win gold is my new favorite thing.
14 Feb 2018 11:06 - +749
My heart was fucking pounding his whole run and waiting for the results. and I don't play sports haha. But seriously so pumped and happy for him.

Why the F did NPR report at 9:45 p.m. ET that Shaun White took silver? Am I missing something? https://www.npr.org/sections/thetorch/2018/02/13/585622536/shaun-white-goes-for-gold-in-halfpipe-at-the-winter-olympics EDIT: "marred his second and final run" - so the writer thought there were only two. Poor form, NPR! EDIT 2: Screenshots of relevant portions for those who wish to rub it in. https://imgur.com/a/XYhP6

Legend, you can tell how much this meant to him.
14 Feb 2018 11:04 - +317
What an insane event, such a treat to watch.
14 Feb 2018 11:09 - +303
Feel bad for Hirano, guy looked absolutely devastated. But what a run, my god. Americans have a dynasty in snowboarding right now.
14 Feb 2018 11:08 - +251
Half pipe was probably the best event this whole olympics. everyone brought it.
14 Feb 2018 11:07 - +194
Also the 2nd run by Ayumu Hirano was insane But big Shaun took it home
14 Feb 2018 11:04 - +145
Talk about performing under pressure...
14 Feb 2018 11:06 - +115
That whole event was a blast to watch.
14 Feb 2018 11:05 - +110
My ears are still ringing from all the screams in my house
14 Feb 2018 11:07 - +84
Canadian here but I was cheering for him the whole time. Fucken legend. That was fucking awesome wooo
14 Feb 2018 11:05 - +57
That was an absolutely ridiculous run. Incredible.
14 Feb 2018 11:10 - +54
Man this guy is crazy good. Just goes to show that if you name your kid after a snowboarding video game, he might grow up to be an Olympic gold medal winner. I hope my 8 year old son, Tenatey, will grow up to be a snowboarding champion too.

First medal event I've been able to watch so far, fucking awesome. USA
14 Feb 2018 11:05 - +36
That was fucking magical
14 Feb 2018 11:05 - +35
Is there anything this man cannot do??
14 Feb 2018 11:13 - +35
Both Ayumu and Shaun White pulling out the back to back 1440s is insane. It still seems impossible how humans can do such tricks under so much pressure. Both men stepped up today and made watching this so intense. What a great few days for snowboarding halfpipe it has been
14 Feb 2018 11:06 - +29
An absolute fucking legend
14 Feb 2018 11:21 - +29
That last run was staggeringly good. He's now tied with Kelly Clark for most Olympic snowboarding medals, and he could still have one more Olympics in him.
14 Feb 2018 11:34 - +29
Mood here in Japan is pretty bittersweet. Hirano just gave an interview. Came off pretty crestfallen. They're also not showing White's gold medal run on replay.
14 Feb 2018 11:04 - +29
That was damn impressive
14 Feb 2018 11:06 - +27
Elevating his game when it mattered the most- that's what it's all about!
14 Feb 2018 11:11 - +23
Somebody call Peta, there's a GOAT in the halfpipe
14 Feb 2018 11:04 - +22
Wow
14 Feb 2018 11:11 - +22
Team USA's 100th winter gold medal. Absolutely poetic.
14 Feb 2018 11:34 - +20
For those wondering between Shauns run and Hiranos run who deserved the better score, keep in mind judges give higher points for going bigger on the first air. Shaun started his run with the 1440 and Hiranos first 1440 came on the second air. They had similar tricks otherwise but dropping in with a 1440 is big money.
14 Feb 2018 11:18 - +19
After the big fall he had in training too, to come back like this...man...this guy is a fucking legend
14 Feb 2018 11:06 - +16
That was phenomenal.
14 Feb 2018 11:07 - +15
Redemption!!
14 Feb 2018 11:08 - +14
He poured everything into that last run. Had me jumping off the couch when he landed his last trick. So amazing to watch. Just pure clutch. Thanks for everything, Shaun. You’re an American hero.
14 Feb 2018 11:07 - +13
That was an amazing competition. Shaun White is the man.
14 Feb 2018 11:07 - +13
First time watching a halfpipe finale, couldn't ask for more!
14 Feb 2018 11:15 - +13
Love how you could see how much this meant to him. Nervous waiting to collapsing with emotion. Someone's cutting onions near me. Congrats White, well deserved and what an amazing competition we all got to watch.

Dudes only 31, what is “prime” for snowboarding? Is there a chance he is at Beijing?
14 Feb 2018 11:16 - +12
Is Shaun the only competitor that looks to the sky when he is in rotation? What a difference from the rest.
14 Feb 2018 11:08 - +11
This was the most amazing snowboarding competition I’ve ever seen!
14 Feb 2018 11:07 - +11
My heart was pounding - I'm really happy he pulled it out. What a competitor.
14 Feb 2018 11:20 - +11
The first time I went skiing in Colorado, the most amazing thing I saw was how damn steep the halfpipe is...TV does not do it justice.
14 Feb 2018 11:13 - +11
The suspense was killing me. What an amazing final run. Hirano’s second run was truly incredible as well.
14 Feb 2018 11:08 - +10
Halfpipe GOAT for sure.
14 Feb 2018 11:15 - +10
Can’t believe he is only 31, seems like he’s been around forever. Absolute GOAT Edit: Changed 30 to 31, my bad
14 Feb 2018 11:09 - +10
I never thought I would tear up watching snowboarding
14 Feb 2018 11:17 - +10
This Shaun White guy is pretty good
14 Feb 2018 11:14 - +10
Even though I'm an adult now, I just can't help but shed tears of joy as I watched him snowboard on TV through out my childhood. I'm so happy right now, feelling like a kid again :). Thanks Shaun.
14 Feb 2018 11:07 - +9
absolutely insane, best to ever do it for sure
14 Feb 2018 11:09 - +9
