So fucking sick. I could barely watch I was so nervous especially with everyone else wiping out. And then he just throws it down. Damn, he is the fucking man.

Imagine trying out a new trick towards the end of your career to try and keep up with boarders over a decade younger than you, only to smash your head on the pipe and get carted off to go have a doctor sew your face back together with 67 stitches. Now imagine having the stones to even think about trying it again. Now imagine actually trying it again. Now imagine trying it two times in a row. Now imagine landing both of them, back to back, on your last Olympic run where you were down by 1 point. The. Man. Is. Legend.

Here's his [initial reaction to winning gold.]( And an [emotional celebration afterwards.]( Way to go Shaun!

And NBC doesn’t show any replays, no analysis, no breakdown, of one of the greatest runs of all time. Just cuts from an extremely emotional 3x gold medalist, to figure skating. smh

Shaun White is the Tony Hawk of snowboarding. The name will always be synonymous with the sport. What a legend!

Even though I'm an adult now, I just can't help but shed tears of joy as I watched him snowboard on TV through out my childhood. I'm so happy right now, feelling like a kid again :). Thanks Shaun.

It was such a clean run! Almost too clean... was that... a Tide ad?
14 Feb 2018 11:19 - +1116
Gotta be those Mountain Dews, baby

Shawn White is a living legend. The stuff he's still doing today is beyond incredible, he is 100% the GOAT.

"Metal Run" 🤘🤘🤘🤘

He was so shocked and taken by surprise when he found out he won. The speed of the judges coming back with that score was surprising, but it was totally deserved. Hirano was so close, but both were awesome!
14 Feb 2018 11:49 - +439
Still easier than getting Reddit gold. Edit: I take that back

I’m so stoked that everyone joins in on the excitement of board sports even if it’s once every 4 years. Wake, Snow, Skate, Surf... get out there and do it y’all. Amazing sports, amazing communities.

This is why the Russians need PEDs
14 Feb 2018 11:12 - +317
He’s still crying from the emotion and excitement. It was great to watch him pull that run off!
14 Feb 2018 11:09 - +305
That was nerve wracking. GO USA!!!
14 Feb 2018 11:34 - +291
How is he still this good? I remember he was on top of the snowboarding game when I was a teenager (I’m 31).
14 Feb 2018 11:08 - +155
31 years old, my ass.

This was the performance of the olympics so far. The tension was palpable. Top contenders were dropping like flies, clearly rattled by an earlier competitor carted off on a gurney. And after all the injuries, all the pressure of needing to live up to an impossible bar set by his younger self, and down a point to a young Japanese phenom, the moment came and Shaun White was, well, Shaun White, and laid down a final run for the ages. Absolutely remarkable.

Serious question. Why is it that men can get so much more out of their runs than women? Is it simply strength?
14 Feb 2018 11:08 - +102
The flying tomato.
14 Feb 2018 11:13 - +99
OP do you happen to have the second place run to compare?
14 Feb 2018 11:33 - +90
How the fuck are the announcers so calm?! I was watching on the Norwegian coverage and they were freaking out! EDIT: [Link]( for people asking, don't know if it works outside Norway, but only one I could find.
14 Feb 2018 11:24 - +75
I was 6 when I first saw the flying tomato, today I got to see him win his 3rd gold medal. Forever the goat in my eyes!
14 Feb 2018 11:44 - +68
You didn't fuck up, OP. Shaun White is fucking metal
14 Feb 2018 11:35 - +63
That was nerve wracking, watching him go into that last run. I can’t even imagine the pressure. He’s a fucking legend. I shed some tears of joy for him. Incredible to watch.
14 Feb 2018 11:11 - +62
When I’m 31 I’m going to try and do this and probably die.
14 Feb 2018 11:26 - +51
Im so happy I saw one of these legendary sport moments live for once.
14 Feb 2018 11:27 - +35
Seems like the younger guys haven't quite learned to deal with the pressure yet. Everyone was crashing on their last runs.
14 Feb 2018 12:08 - +32
For comparison. See how much the sport has progressed. [Snowboarding's Olympic Debut - Nagano 1998 Winter Olympics](
14 Feb 2018 11:24 - +22
Incredible to watch live, something I definitely won’t forget.

Yes, OP spelled "medal" wrong. No, that isn't a good enough reason to remove a 92k karma post.
