He was the most French Dane and the most Danish Frenchman. What an absolute legend of a man! May he rest in peace.

Prince Henrik of Denmark (Danish pronunciation: [ˈhɛnˀʁæɡ]; born Henri Marie Jean André de Laborde de Monpezat (11 June 1934 – 13 February 2018), was the husband and consort of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. Henrik was born in the French commune of Talence to the old French family the Laborde de Monpezats. His family had spent many years in Vietnam, but left the country following the defeat of the French in the First Indochina War. After being educated in France, Henrik served in the French Army during Algerian War. Prior to his marriage with Margrethe, he worked in the diplomatic service. Henrik married Margrethe at the Church of Holmen on 10 June 1967 and became her consort when she succeeded her father, King Frederick IX, as monarch of Denmark on 14 January 1972. He had two sons, Crown Prince Frederik (born 1968) and Prince Joachim (born 1969). He had eight grandchildren. Throughout his time as Prince consort, Henrik voiced his displeasure with fact that he never received the title of King. //Wikipedia

Good night, sweet prince.

He is the first person in Danish history to be the husband of a reigning queen. There was no protocol, no precedence, when he was married, and no one really took the time to properly define his role. Later in life, he expressed regret and annoyance that his role was so ill-defined, and contrasted it with the role of women married to a king, who become queen. He didn't actually say that he wanted to be king, despite what the tabloids claimed.

I didn’t expect it to be this quick! It was a little bit expected as he also got dementia but it is still a little surprising. Hvil i fred Henrik.

How come he wasn't a king if he was married to the queen?

Hvil i fred.

[Rest In Peace](https://imgur.com/2ff6d8bc-dfb3-47e4-9ed5-4a6f7f47fff9) I have met him (well, I was in the same room as him), and he was super friendly and cheerful. He never really "won over" the danes, and I think his accent played a big part in that. He could hold a fluent conversation in danish, but still sounded like a foreigner. When crown prince Frederik married Mary, they didn't repeat that mistake. She learned to speak danish like a native in a couple of months.

Is he not worth a higher resolution than this?
14 Feb 2018 18:12 - +14
He was a jolly good fellow

I hope his highness will find the afterlife well. Praise you for bringing WWF to Denmark and for being a good friend to a friend of mine when she needed it the most, when she served on the Royal ship Dannebrog. May your afterlife be full of wine, food and amazing art. Truly, by me you will be missed and you will always be a king in my eyes

He was the King of the people! In my mind he Will allways be King Henrik! Rest In Peace!

It is somehow interesting to know that foreign countries can find some use for our ex-nobility (or wannabe ex-nobility in that case it seems). Because we most definitely do not.

Saw him once at Malmö Opera. Verdi, Luisa Miller. Seems to have been quite a modest man in some ways, considering there were no big security arrangement around his arrival. He and a couple of men arrived in an old, beautiful Daimler. Sat a couple of rows in front of me. That night at least he was just a regular guy enjoying a lovely piece of music.
