That's one way to secure your bike.

Someone would still find a way to steal it.

Riding a bike in Chicago weather, it's a vicious cycle.

Am I the only one who would enjoy removing the ice with a hammer and chisel?

In every bit of American pop culture ever which the media is absolutely saturated with here (in the UK) America is hot and sunny, or in Christmas films has a delightful dusting of snow. In every winter picture of America on reddit it looks colder than a witch's tit.

We (Chicago) haven't had an ice storm that bad in a very long time. This is a picture of a bicycle on a back porch of a three flat after a for of snow in less than a week and then warm daytime temperatures. Pretty much every old apartment building in the city is covered in ice dams right now and it's causing the excess liquid water to spill over onto unsuspecting bicycles and subsequently freeze. I know because I almost just feel down the stairs of my building for the same reason!

When has Chicago ever had an ice storm like this? Something's not right here.
14 Feb 2018 13:01 - +19
This is too much, I’d have to move down south

An icicle bicycle.

Would the bike being frozen over affect anything about it? Like would you be able to just smash the ice, and ride it normally? Or is there something that the ice will damage? The only two things I can think of is maybe rusting it, or sucking up the lubricant? Sorry, idk how ice works :)

Thats a pretty cool bike ya got there.

I am from Illinois and this is what nightmares are made of. Winter in that midwest polar vortex, ruins everything. It's not just the cold either, the salt used for melting ice coats everything. The salt gets all over the outside of your car, and you track it into your car and floorboards. It also gets tracked into your house. Newer and used cars batteries pretty much have to be replaced every couple of years if your car has to sit outside all winter every year. Bikes turn into huge pieces of shit after sitting outside for about two years, and a complete rebuild and re-grease is necessary for any salvage. One of the main reason I moved away.

*The ice glows white on the bike tonight* *Not a footprint to be seen*

This is what happens when you leave the freezer open.
14 Feb 2018 19:51 - +3
It is hard to bicycle.

I know it's been commented multiple times but when I first saw the pic I heard "did someone order a *sunglasses* b-icicle?" in my head
14 Feb 2018 13:05 - +2
That weather really found another gear.
14 Feb 2018 19:56 - +2
Am I the only one who didn’t read the caption and see plastic instead of snow by accident?
14 Feb 2018 19:55 - +2
Calling bullshit. This year Chicago did not get a winter storm which would produce ice such as this. Possibly South suburbs, but the sole ice storm in Illinois this year was mostly below the I 80 corridor.
14 Feb 2018 19:38 - +2
Well, this bike is to never be ridden again.

14 Feb 2018 20:35 - +2
I have icicles hanging over my porch but I've never had an icecycle on my porch
14 Feb 2018 19:37 - +2
Welp atleast no one can steal it now...
14 Feb 2018 21:34 - +2
sad thing is the bike is probably already stolen, once it melts it simply wont be there.
14 Feb 2018 19:44 - +2
Well that ain't very (n)ice from the winter storm
14 Feb 2018 18:52 - +2
Yeah this winter weather out here in Long Beach is getting cray too. Last night it was 53 fucking degrees and drizzling. I had to turn snow/wet mode on on my car for the first time! Is it summer yet?
14 Feb 2018 20:03 - +2
Didn't he get 98.50 in qualifying?
14 Feb 2018 18:34 - +2
Certainly looks like chi alright.
14 Feb 2018 20:41 - +2
Appears to be a bicycle, OP. Not a bridge.

14 Feb 2018 13:33 - +2
Near the shore?
14 Feb 2018 22:43 - +2
At least you won’t have to worry about it being stolen!
14 Feb 2018 13:45 - +2
