"Can you stay still for, like, *a fucking second*"

My friend Phoebe has been painting the ocean in her spare time. She keeps getting better and better. And she's sold some of them. This huge one blew me away! This is her website if you'd like to see the others: http://www.phoebesonder.net/

Looks more like water on canvas
15 Feb 2018 03:45 - +159
This is gorgeous. It has a photorealistic quality that is so hard to get with water/waves.
15 Feb 2018 03:58 - +61
just looked thru her site, i realize there are different styles of painting but the progress she's made is pretty dang cool. How long has she been painting?
15 Feb 2018 03:48 - +23
Holy shit it‘s swallowing me!
15 Feb 2018 04:25 - +20
She really nailed it. Tell her good work for me! Water is very difficult to paint correctly
15 Feb 2018 03:38 - +16
I thought this was a photo This is really well done, I can hear the waves just by looking at this piece.
15 Feb 2018 03:54 - +13
It is damn hard to paint *just* water and waves and have it come out actually interesting, since there’s no traditional focal point really. She definitely nailed it with this painting, it is amazing!
15 Feb 2018 03:45 - +10
Amazing job capturing the sunlight through the tops of the waves.
15 Feb 2018 04:01 - +8
Turner would weep. Well, he was a cockney wide-boy, so he'd've said "Cor blimey lawkes a lummy, that's sam bladdy noice lookin' wough-ah there gahvnah, an' no mistake."
15 Feb 2018 03:23 - +7
This is amaze balls. If I had the money to spare I would write a blank check for that painting.
15 Feb 2018 04:25 - +6
When you’re broke af but you love original oil paintings... D’:
15 Feb 2018 06:11 - +6
How do I say this... I can taste that painting.
15 Feb 2018 04:29 - +6
I like that it's called "Maytag" as in washing machine. Whenever a Hurricane is passing by our local shore becomes too frenzied to surf/body surf. It is dubbed a washing machine during those times.
15 Feb 2018 04:09 - +6
Going to "Paintings" and then clicking each next painting shows you how much she's improved. It's absolutely incredible to be honest.
15 Feb 2018 05:14 - +6
reminds me of this dude http://www.ranortner.com/paintings/
15 Feb 2018 04:15 - +5
Coincidence or not, I loved the wall choice for the photo. The rough brick look really makes the waves look clean.
15 Feb 2018 04:49 - +4
That's amazing. Would love to see this in person.
15 Feb 2018 06:24 - +3
This is something that I would be immensely proud to have hanging in my home, properly lit in a prominent place. I hope to look you up when I strike it rich with software development because I am sure an original of yours would cost a pretty penny.
15 Feb 2018 07:07 - +3
Wow that looks so real - love this kind of work
15 Feb 2018 06:07 - +3
That's crazy I didn't know the inside of my washing machine could look so much like the ocean. Nice idea for a photo.
15 Feb 2018 06:28 - +3
Looks like photoshop on canvas to me! *zooms In on right side of the wall showing faded continuation of the waves* ...😠
15 Feb 2018 04:15 - +3
These are intense and a wonderful cure for my homesickness when I feel it sneak up. I love how even the smaller ones feel HUGE.
15 Feb 2018 06:50 - +3
It's like a window, stunning and very well done. It's not often art captures me like this has damn
15 Feb 2018 04:50 - +3
That might be the best painting of water ive ever seen. The translucency is amazing.
15 Feb 2018 07:23 - +3
Terrible! That looks nothing like a washing machine.
15 Feb 2018 06:29 - +3
I just got lost in this painting for about five minutes. Captivating!
15 Feb 2018 05:19 - +2
When you're painting is so realistic the wall behind it looks fake.
15 Feb 2018 05:35 - +2
inb4 there's a gif of this picture "moving"
15 Feb 2018 07:47 - +2
JESUS CHRIST!!!(in a good way)
15 Feb 2018 05:57 - +2
This is beautiful! Maytag on the Kennebec river in The Forks, ME?
15 Feb 2018 06:34 - +2
Great Sea of Thieves screenshot.
15 Feb 2018 06:00 - +2
Is this the one that one the first Art Prize in Grand Rapids,MI?
15 Feb 2018 04:17 - +2
The detail is surreal. I can draw a mean stick figure so how someone can put this mental image on canvas that well absolutely baffles me.
15 Feb 2018 08:18 - +2
That's a fucking painting!? That looks like a digital picture. That's some talent. The realism is for real.
15 Feb 2018 06:21 - +1
Pardon my ignorance but I thought I’d find a washer dryer combo.
15 Feb 2018 07:34 - +1
Are you actually telling me that's not a photograph?? Because that *looks* like a photograph.
15 Feb 2018 05:52 - +1
I don't know how to take all the details in this, it's too spot on
15 Feb 2018 07:38 - +1
It is amazing, though I could never understand what the point of drawing something so well it looks like a photo is. Cos at that point you might as well just have a photo framed.
15 Feb 2018 06:43 - +1
somehow I feel like there is so much emotion in those waves
15 Feb 2018 07:46 - +1
Did anyone else immediately call bullshit when they saw, “oil on canvas“? I had to zoom in there really close to see that it was paint. Excellent work here!
15 Feb 2018 05:55 - +1
WOW I don’t even know what to say.. just wow!
15 Feb 2018 08:00 - +1
The oil on that canvas looks more like water tbh
15 Feb 2018 06:31 - +1
How much would something like this cost?
15 Feb 2018 06:46 - +1
It looks like it's coming off the canvas. This is exceptional.
15 Feb 2018 07:20 - +1
Amazing! I could look at it for hours!
15 Feb 2018 05:13 - +1
Love, love love this! Beautiful!!!
15 Feb 2018 05:53 - +1
She's on Facebook. She's only followed by 60 people.
15 Feb 2018 05:33 - +1
Reminds me of a scene in High Spirits.
15 Feb 2018 05:56 - +1
I call bs. This is clearly a high res photo. No human is that good.
15 Feb 2018 05:33 - +1
Holy crap this looks so real!
15 Feb 2018 06:30 - +1
*casually looks at photo* "I could do that."
15 Feb 2018 05:46 - +1
someone make this into a r/cinemagraph
15 Feb 2018 06:31 - +1
Seeing the progression of her work is really amazing!
15 Feb 2018 05:52 - +1
This is absolutely incredible! I am in awe of her talent, and can only wish to own something like this one day
15 Feb 2018 06:43 - +1
Wow, looks like a picture.
15 Feb 2018 07:06 - +1
Nice work Phoebe! Makin NK proud!
15 Feb 2018 07:05 - +1
Somewhere, under the thrashing of massive waves and under the facade of fragile harmony and fading strength, is an idea fighting to be born. An idea so powerful it rattles the sky, moves mountains and misplaces oceans. The idea? That life and happiness can co-exist.
15 Feb 2018 04:02 - +1
How do I know you're not on a boat and that's not a window???
15 Feb 2018 07:13 - +1
I would really like to see a video of something like this being done.
15 Feb 2018 04:37 - +1
The sea was angry that day, my friends. Nice work.
15 Feb 2018 07:25 - +1
it bothers me how real this looks.
15 Feb 2018 04:37 - +1
This is absolutely beautiful! (^:
15 Feb 2018 07:36 - +1
I could've sworn that was a photo
15 Feb 2018 04:41 - +1
That's looks absolutely amaaaazing. Wow. Inspiring too. Someone actually DID this. Bravo
15 Feb 2018 07:46 - +1
But thats water on canvas
15 Feb 2018 04:47 - +1
I'm not convinced those aren't pictures.
15 Feb 2018 07:50 - +1
I just learned what a Maytag was on Spontaneanation with Paul F. Tompkins. Whats that phenomenon, Baader-Meinhof I believe? How strange. Awesome painting :-)
15 Feb 2018 05:00 - +1
Nice pic and all but why is this on art?, it should be on pics.
