There's one thing I'm sorry about in Iceland. Even though Iceland is incredibly beautiful and basically wherever you go, you have fun and high quality photographic material. Everyone keeps taking same pictures over and over again same places, same compositions... nothing new. And as they say, when you want to see a change, be it. I'M 99 % sure that you've never seen a photograph of this place before, it's one of the most remote place in Iceland.Photo was taken from the top of the kálfatindar (535) in the natural reserve Hornstrandir (location Hornvík). There are two ways to get here, either take a boat that will drive you to the enlightened fjord on the right for fair price of 300€. Or walk here in the rain for a week with backpacks on your back. The Photograph is composed of 9 photographs. (three photos in one row on three exposures)

does it make a bowl like that naturally or is that effect a result of being composed of multiple photos? This is beautiful btw.

Photographer Chris Burkard who specializes in outdoor photography has made Iceland the subject of much of his content for quite a few years now. Surfing it’s frigid coastlines, chronicling the rapid decline of its glaciers and erosion of said coastline, and ultimately conservation of its pristine beauty. I knew as soon as I saw this picture that it had to be the same place that I’ve seen him post pictures of. It’s such a distinct and incredible land feature that there was no doubt in my mind it was the same spot. You should check out some of his photography. It’s really very breathtaking stuff. Um I'm pretty sure I found a Korok seed there by rolling a boulder down into one of those ponds.

Let me shield surf there!

Great image. There is some aberration in the background mountains that you may want to correct if you make any prints, likely from stacking exposures. I use this technique a good bit too and it can be frustrating to get them all lined up

The temptation to re-post this right now with "You have seen a photo from this location before" as the title is so strong.
15 Feb 2018 07:34 - +11
There's a place in Breath of the Wild that looks exactly like this.
15 Feb 2018 07:27 - +9
The folks over at /r/ultrawidemasterrace would appreciate this
15 Feb 2018 08:16 - +7

I feel like Iceland is the last natural untainted part of earth. The land looks young there, if that makes any sense. Then I get sad when I think about how the entire earth used to be like that and I’ll never see it. >_>
15 Feb 2018 06:13 - +4
There be dragons here.
15 Feb 2018 07:57 - +3
Need to hunker down and form a defensive line- the Covenant will be here any moment!
15 Feb 2018 10:50 - +3
Downvoting for your stupid fucking title ruining an otherwise nice photo.
15 Feb 2018 07:42 - +3
So this is where they got the idea for the Icelandic Landscapes in The Ancient Magus' Bride.

Iceland is being destroyed by tourism, and you should think real hard about what tourism means to you, vs what it does to other people:

Tbh there’s a lot of places I’ve never seen pictures of

Burkard's captured it before.

Simply incredible. OP, I've taken multiple trips to Iceland but have always done the southern half. Mostly due to the density of iconic landmarks (glaciers, waterfalls, beaches) Would you recommend the north side? I've wanted to see the highlands but I'd be afraid there wouldn't be much to visit compared to the south.
15 Feb 2018 09:30 - +2
Don't lie OP. We all know this is Valhalla. Beautiful photo!
15 Feb 2018 09:00 - +2
Your move, flat earth-ers.

Breath Of The Wild seems directly inspired by landscapes like this. Otherworldly.
15 Feb 2018 10:06 - +2
I wonder if the repost in a few weeks will use the same title.
15 Feb 2018 09:19 - +2
Anyone else just thinking of breath of the wild
15 Feb 2018 07:36 - +2
I love that the only size of human civilization in the entire photo is one tiny sailboat in the fjord on the far right of the image. Fantastic work! :)

The waterfall way off in the distance in the top left hand corner.. Saw it first!
15 Feb 2018 08:29 - +1
I saw this on google maps.
15 Feb 2018 08:35 - +1
I love how the land swoops in and out and up and down
15 Feb 2018 11:31 - +1
Not sure why this guy felt it necessary to shit on everyone's same samey photos as a preface to his amazingly unique and apparently incredibly rare photo. Yeah it's nice but being a condescending douche doesn't help make it nicer.
15 Feb 2018 08:39 - +1
So, I see the Horn, but where is the strandir?
15 Feb 2018 08:31 - +1
I totally want to roll a GIANT inflatable ball down this!
15 Feb 2018 07:15 - +1
Perfect place for a colony We will grow the trees, we will grow the crops, we will drink the water, we will explore the seas -Dirkey
15 Feb 2018 08:37 - +1
This place looks like it got hit by a kamehameha or something.
15 Feb 2018 07:19 - +1
So it looks like Iceland also has dandelions [you can see them on the foreground especially on the left side]. I guess where ever humans go they bring their dandelions with them? Or is it a native plant to Iceland?

I find this is one of the greatest challenges in landscape photography: being original. It's great to go get the shots everyone else is and maybe under different weather or circumstances, but it does kill authenticity. This is something I struggle with myself. I think there's a balance to be had for sure. Shoot the common locations for your portfolio and practice and experience, but go out of your way to hunt for new perspective on these areas. Not easy to do!

I see a waterfall in the distance, beautiful location and amazing picture. Thank you.
15 Feb 2018 08:28 - +1
Fantastic picture. I grabbed 3 screenshots from it to use as phone backgrounds. Thx for sharing.
