My Japanese colleague left his wallet in a cab in Boston today. The driver found it, came back to the hotel and walked around the lobby until he found him. Thanks Kelly, you’re a good man.

See we're only assholes in Boston if you deserve it.

After letting him know it was my first trip to Boston, I had an Uber Black driver take me on a tour of all the sights of Boston for no extra charge. Super cool driver, Boston apparently has a great cab scene.

I once left my laptop in a taxi while in Manhattan. The driver dropped me off at a restaurant. When I went inside, a few minutes later I realized I had left it in the cab. I went outside and he was no longer there. I was panicking because I knew there was no way to contact him. A little while later the driver came into the restaurant returning my laptop saying that his next ride (headed to LGA so it would have been a substantial fare) found the laptop and he told her that he needed to return the laptop to me so that he couldn’t take her. He turned down the substantial fare to make sure he returned to the restaurant while I was still there. I tipped him with all of the cash I had left on me and told him how grateful I was.

Funny thing is, in Japan there would be no question that the cab driver would do this.

The first time I went to Japan I lost my wallet. Somebody I had just met went to every place we had visited, found it, and travelled across Tokyo to bring it to me. The man I was studying under at the time said, "If this was New York, not get wallet back. But this is Japan."

Similar story in Boston.. my family and I had been day drinking hopping from bar to bar. By the third or fourth place, I realized I left my $700 camera somewhere- either a past bar or the cab we recently took. As we tried to figure out how we would ever get ahold of the cab driver, the 19 year old host of the bar/restaurant overheard our conversation and said, “wait you guys were dropped off by a guy in a *cab service name* cab and he was wearing a Miami Marlins Jersey.. let’s call their dispatch and have them send out a message to their drivers. Sure enough, we got ahold of the driver who said he would meet us after his shift at 1am. The guy drove forty mins away from where he was by the end of the night to deliver my camera. Better yet, he explained that a previous rider, a doctor, found the camera in the backseat and selflessly handed it to him saying this isn’t his. That’s three complete strangers all going above and beyond to help me out. If I didn’t already love that city.

A few years ago, my girlfriend and I were at a gas station filling up the car. We were about ready to drive off when we noticed a woman in another car had driven off with her wallet on top of her car. Naturally, the wallet fell off and onto the street. I hopped out and picked up the wallet when there was no traffic. Her whole life was in that thing. License, social security, student ID. Her address was only less than 10 minutes away, so we decided to drop by and hope she went straight home. We get there and knock on the door, but there's no answer. My girlfriend and I didn't really know what to do. It was an apartment complex and, frankly, not in the best area of town. We didn't want to just leave it by the door or with a neighbor. The leasing office was closed for the day. We hung around for 20 minutes hoping she'd come home. Finally, we said screw it. We'd try again the next morning. As we're walking away, we walk by the woman who is in tears. I asked if she was so and so and she was like, "Yes!" I told her we found the wallet after she drove off. She was probably the happiest person on Earth for a brief moment. It was a cool feeling. I'm glad it worked out.

I lost my wallet in a cab in Boston during university. I went to the school's security office to give them my number in case it was returned there (it contained my student ID right in the front and the cab had dropped us at the dorms). The security officer begrudgingly took down my number and said "I've worked here for twenty years and I've NEVER seen a wallet returned from a cab. Cancel your cards and forget about it." An hour later, that security guard called me to tell me the cab driver had returned my wallet.

This reminds me of a homeless man that found a wallet at a gas station pump, I saw him take it into the gas station and give it to the clerk. When he walked out I told him that was the right thing to do, but he said “yeah, but it just cost him his cash”.

That is awesome and the same thing would be considered normal in Japan. It should be normal everywhere.

I've lost my phone before and it's such a good feeling when someone turns it in. Much props to this dude, not everyone is a decent human being now a days.

I once lost my wallet in a subway car. I remember instantly realizing as soon as I left the car and started heading up the stairs that it must've fallen out of my pocket. A guy tweets at me and sends me a message on Instagram an hour or two later asking if I lost something. He found my online accounts by searching for the name on my ID. When I got my wallet back I tried to give him all of the money that was inside (~$150) because all I really needed/wanted at the time was my ID since I was from out of state and replacing it would have been a real hassle. He refused any of the money and just told me to give it to people who look like they could use it.

Hahah the dude looks a little overwhelmed, very sweet

I gotta say. I've been in my share of cabs in Boston and the drivers have been some of the rudest individuals I've ever met. I'm glad to know that they aren't all that way.

Some comedian should do a bit about how there is no grey area when losing a wallet. It’s either really good (returned) or really bad (stolen).
14 Mar 2018 09:04 - +3
That driver better get a nice fat tip because in America that's rarely done, even more rare in a metropolis!

Only been to Boston once and some guy tried to sell me meth in front of the bus station.
