This gives kind of a shit effect doesn't it? I mean either he needs a smaller piece of wood or a much bigger tool. Edit: that's my highest rated comment, just talking shit about a wood graining tool..

Not quite the brick roller is it
16 Apr 2018 20:05 - +632
The repeating patterns would annoy me
16 Apr 2018 20:31 - +415
Too many branches!

If you're gonna use particleboard and pretend it's not, at least use veneer.
16 Apr 2018 20:04 - +368
Ew

This reminds of how some fast food burger joints used to stamp burger patties to create the illusion that the meat is grilled. But when it was found out, these burger joints got done for false advertising. I feel like this is the same concept haha.

LIES! After this and the brick pattern Printing roller I don't know what to believe. I feel like when I was little and I watched Dark City for the first time
16 Apr 2018 21:13 - +51
This thing sucks.

I wanted to paint a wood grain effect on my garage door and considered this tool. After watching a few how-to's on youtube I realized a regular paint brush can do a similar job and make a more mahogany finish. I painted an orange base and then a very dark purpley brown top coat with an almost dry brush. I had to mix it with some kind of glaze as well. I think it came out better than I had even hoped. https://imgur.com/zvmw1sq

Cool tool but this guy sucks at using it.

Sorry OP, I think a conclusion has been reached; we are not oddly satisfied.

Kits for this were all the rage about 15 years ago. It invariably turns out shit, not at all like the ads.
16 Apr 2018 22:05 - +6
Did kind of a shit job.

Wow, that's a really cool way to turn your furniture trashy looking.
16 Apr 2018 22:36 - +5
That's an ugly pattern
16 Apr 2018 22:31 - +5
Wood graining has been around for thousands of years ( Egyptians did it ).Most painter/ decorators would have had some skill with replication g wood and marble with brushes and paints and glazes . When this tool was invented , it “cheapened “ the art and people dismissed woodgraining as unrealistic , however , it can be done to look very realistic, by using the proper tools . Look up Thomas Kershaw’ s work on display at the Bolton museum , London .

What's next, painting grill marks on hamburgers??
16 Apr 2018 20:57 - +4
Is it scraping the varnish off? This is hardly satisfying I hear nails on a chalkboard in my head.
17 Apr 2018 00:43 - +4
You bastard. I just posted about this on specialized tools yesterday. https://www.reddit.com/r/specializedtools/comments/8c6b4z/z/dxclwwu You even used the video that I posted!

This is not oddly satisfying to me. This is grating, because I quite dislike when one material pretends to act like another material. I dislike it a lot. It's an affront to proper design sensibility.

I’ve wood grained my inner toilet bowl a few times. Did it with no hands
16 Apr 2018 21:45 - +3
When will the lies stop?

As cool as it is I hate anything that tries to look like wood but is not.

This is a house built on a foundation of lies.
16 Apr 2018 22:52 - +3
I’ve used these in Stratford Ontario whilst taking a 5 week course there. One day was dedicated to making fake wood, as well as fake masonry. I need to buy one of these STAT.

I thought those were natural 😢😌 My life has been a lie 😖
17 Apr 2018 02:33 - +2
I would lose my shit if i had this while tripping balls. The first time i shroomed all i could do was stare at wood grain on the panel by my friends mirror. I would make faces and the wood grain would bend and warp to make a series of faces imitating me. Woodgrain has always tripped me out the most(when tripping) and it's even comforting in a strange way.

Fake hair, fake nails, fake grain

First bricks are fake, now wood! Am I real!
16 Apr 2018 23:20 - +2
I thought these wood patterns were naturally from the cut of wood! They’re added on?!!?
16 Apr 2018 22:55 - +2
Can't trust nothing on these days..
16 Apr 2018 23:27 - +2
It helps if you actually know how to use it. The end result of this gif will look like garbage.

Why not just use wood? Is this cost effective or is there another reason to avoid wood?
16 Apr 2018 21:52 - +2
I have this tool at home (Saman was the brand). We were planning on doing some kitchen relooking a few years ago. After 15 minutes of swearing in a piece of melamine we had enough. We decided it was better to save some money and buy new cabinets instead. Edit: it seems that they don’t sell this shit anymore.
